Here's a book recommendation from our Regional Coordinator, Kim Higgins, who recently read a copy of The Intrigue at Highbury, which is part of the Mr. & Mrs. Darcy Mysteries by Carrie Bebris: "I read it and I LOVED it! It is the first sequel that makes me feel the way Austen's books make me feel. I can't explain it, I just know that I want to read more, and sent away for all the other novels in the series. Mr. and Mrs. Darcy, while traveling, find themselves meeting the characters from Austen's novels, and become embroiled in mysteries. They become quite adept at solving murders." You can read more about the entire series, plus more at Carrie's website at http://www.carriebebris.com/darcy_mysteries.php |

At the Sundance Film Festival, which honors independent films, 'Austenland' was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.
Based on the popular book by Shannon Hale, the film has garnered decidedly mixed reviews, some of which are linked below. If you have links to more reviews, please include them in the comments!

This article in The Guardian reveals that the notorious "wet shirt" scene in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice has its very own 12-foot sculpture tribute. The statue is temporarily showcased in Hyde Park, London, and will tour the United Kingdom before settling in its final location in Lyme Park, Cheshire -- the very location where the scene was filmed!
Read more about the statue here at http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2013/jul/08/mr-darcy-statue-pride-and-prejudice. There is a beautiful gallery of photos online at the Telegraph showcasing fans of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice who gathered at Chatsworth House. Chatsworth held a special dinner recently to celebrate the 200th anniversary of P&P.

There is much more info available on the site, including Austen Links, Kitty Links, How to Photograph a Cat, and a Photo Gallery! There is a new Pride and Prejudice-inspired sequel available on Amazon Kindle, entitled Mrs. Bennet's Menopause, by Lucy Kate King. King is a Jane Austen fan, and this whole project has been a labour of love. King and her husband, Jon Lydon, live a short distance from the little village of Godmersham in Kent, England, where Jane Austen wrote her first drafts of Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice. Any visitors to Kent from your group with an historical interest should get in touch, as they may be able to offer them some English hospitality! Jon Lydon and his author wife, Lucy Kate King, wish our JASNA group best wishes and good luck!
